Seventy Weeks are Determined Part I - (Daniel 9:24-27)
Bible Verse(s)
Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city, To finish the transgression, To make an end of sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To bring in everlasting righteousness, To seal up vision and prophecy, And to anoint the Most Holy. Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times.

And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolation's are determined. Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.

Reading Notes
As we begin to read and understand this prophecy. We come to the realization how much information is packed into this short span of scripture. In the first verse of this prophecy, we get six promises or really two groups of three promises each. The first group of promises was fulfilled during Jesus first coming and the second group will be fulfilled during His second coming.

With His incarnation and first coming Jesus' death and resurrection finished transgressions and made an end of sin. This means He dealt with and paid in full the price of our sin. Thereby making reconciliation between sinful man and a holy God for those who accept Him as their Lord and Savior. However, though the initial work of taking care of sin was done at the cross the final sentencing will be carried out during the day of the Lord. After which at the beginning of the Millennial Kingdom Jesus brings in everlasting righteousness with His return.

The second group of three promises will be fulfilled at His second coming. These include bringing in everlasting righteousness as we read above. Jesus will also bring about the sealing up of vision and prophecy or to render prophecy as no longer needed. Because all that God promised through His prophets, including His covenant with Israel will be fully realized during the Millennial Kingdom. Also for those believers who were glorified they will know as they are known, remembering what Paul told us in 1st Corinthians 13:12, when the Apostle Paul told us about our time here in this world, "For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known."

This prophecy also tells us that He will anoint the Most Holy. This is most likely a reference to the New Jerusalem and His presence in the city or it could be a reference to the dedication of the most Holy Place in the Millennial Temple. This finishes up the first part of these prophecies. Next we'll get into the meaning and interpretation of the Seventy Weeks.
