God Promises He Has Power to Save, We Can Rest In Him - (Zephaniah 3:17)
Bible Promise
You can rest in My love, for I have power to save you.

Verse Text
The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing."

Reading Notes
It was during the early years of King Josiah's reign, that Zephaniah prophesied and the book of the Law was found by Hilkiah the High Priest while repairing the Temple. And after reading the Book of the Law, Josiah realizes how far the people had strayed from God, and he began instituting reforms. King Josiah's reign was the last period of reform before the period of rapid destruction began. King Josiah sought to bring the people back to the Lord and restore the Temple. The backdrop for these reforms was the transition of world power from the Assyrian Empire to the Babylonian Empire. This was a short period of revival before the Southern Kingdom of Judah went into exile in Babylon for seventy years because of their idolatry and rebellion against God. Unfortunately the reforms of King Josiah were too little, too late because the next three kings were evil and rebelled against God and reintroduced idolatry back into the Southern Kingdom, thereby sealing the fate of the Southern Kingdom of Judah. This passage is part of a Messianic prophecy, which speaks of the restoration of Israel and the return of her ultimate King, Christ Jesus our Lord and the time of His reign as God's Messiah.

We have to understand that this period time we're currently living in is called the church age and it is quickly coming to a close. Moreover, it's the only period of time characterized by God's grace and mercy, which is extended to humanity through Jesus and His sacrifice for us on the Cross of Calvary. During this age, God, through the Holy Spirit, calls people to Jesus. The Holy Spirit is working hand in hand with the church, to spread the Gospel of Christ to a lost and dying world. However, the church age is quickly coming to a close and the time of Christ's Millennial Kingdom and return is close at hand. Dear child of God, we mustn't forget, no one who has rejected Jesus will enter His Millennial Kingdom. Therefore, the time is even more urgent and we need to be about our Father's business of spreading the Good News of salvation in Jesus alone, through faith alone. These passages bring hope to Christians today as we understand that we too, will return and rule with Jesus. In addition, we also have His rule now in our hearts, through the indwelling Holy Spirit, as we accept Him as our Lord and Savior and give our lives to Him. Therefore, we rejoice in our salvation because Jesus alone is mighty to save, and He is returning soon.
