Wait patiently for Me and I will hear your cry.

Verse Text
I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry.

Reading Notes
The emphases used here in these verses is not on patience, it's on exclusiveness and trust in God alone. David is saying that he waits and relies solely on the Lord. The phrase David uses indicates that he knows the Lord hears his cry, and he is confident that the Lord will respond and not abandon him. Therefore, he is waiting on the Lord alone, because he wants no one else, he needs no one else, his assurance and need is only in the Lord our God. David more than most people had a heart for the Lord. Moreover, David had a lifetime of experience waiting on the Lord and watching God's direct intervention in his life. David saw first hand the work of God in his life. Therefore, David is waiting for God's work, he is waiting for God's help and not on the help of man to deliver him from his trials.

From David's perspective, as far as his heart is concerned, he has only one source of help, there is only one source that can supply all of his needs and that source is God. The term, "He inclined His ear" paints the image of God stepping out of heaven to bring aid directly to David's side. And this is exactly what Jesus did for us! Jesus the living God of Heaven, stepped out of eternity and took on humanity to rescue us from the miry clay of sin. Through His sacrifice for us and our faith in Him, Jesus has placed our feet firmly upon the rock of His salvation. By faith alone in His atoning work on the Cross of Calvary, we have eternal life. Moreover, we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. Like David, our confidence comes from knowing we belong to Jesus, and there is no better place, than in the living God of Heaven in which to place our complete confidence and trust. Therefore, we cry out to Christ our Lord because He alone is the "Rock of our Salvation."
