Catholic devotional DAILY DEVOTIONS: Dec 10 'Joy, Not Fear'

'Joy, Not Fear'
Advent Weekday
Strengthen the hands that are feeble,
make firm the knees that are weak,
Say to those whose hearts are frightened:
Be strong, fear not!
Here is your God...
- Isaiah 35:3-4
Feeble hands, weak knees and frightened hearts are all around us. Sometimes they belong to us. This passage from Isaiah can serve as a balm for our faint hearts. We are asked to put away fear because our God is coming to save us.

Isaiah portrays a captivating vision, gripping and vivid. It is an image of the Lord's redeemed streaming across the desert. This could be an image for our current times. Put yourself into that desert procession. See the parched places of your life blossoming. Notice streams of water gushing forth. See "the holy way" on which you, too, are invited to walk. Let this text from Isaiah be the heart of your Advent journey as you behold sorrow and mourning fleeing--and joy returning.

Read this entire Scripture passage again as though it was written specifically for you.
