God Promises He Will Make Us Rich in Faith - (James 2:5)
Bible Promise
I have chosen the poor to be rich in faith and heirs of My kingdom.

Verse Text
Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?

Reading Notes
Because of Jesus and our faith in Him we are heirs to the kingdom of God. Our initial guarantee of this promise and our current salvation is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, as well as the resurrection of Jesus. Moreover, the complete fulfillment of which, will occur when we see Jesus face to face in His kingdom. God therefore has chosen us, whom He has made rich in faith to be His children. We who love Him and accept Jesus by faith, can remain steadfast through trials by the power of the Holy Spirit who indwells us. Because of God's grace we will spend eternity in the presence of Christ Jesus our Lord. Through faith God has chosen us to be part of His kingdom as joint heirs with Christ. The Bible tells us, "we were chosen in Christ before the foundations of the world were laid in place." Therefore, we are spiritually rich because of our faith in Jesus! This is the heart of the message in these passages. James was reminding his audience of the greatness of what God has given us because of our faith in Jesus, therefore, we are not looking to the things of this world to ascertain our worth in God's eyes. The primary audience for this letter were Jewish believers who had been dispersed and many of them had lost their possessions.

Moreover, because of their Jewish heritage and upbringing, many equated God's blessings and favor with their worldly status and material wealth. In these passages, James is turning their focus back to the wealth of God's gifts given to us as a result of our faith in Christ. In addition, James is reminding them of the future, which awaits all who have placed their faith in Jesus. We are not only rich in Christ, but God has chosen us to participate in the spread of the Gospel. He has given us the privilege of bringing the "Good News" of salvation to those who do not know Jesus. Our joy is to help seek out those who are lost, by submitting to the guidance of the Holy Spirit as He builds us stronger in our faith through God's process of spiritual growth called sanctification. However, as we do so we understand that currently this world is under the power of sin and greatly influenced by the one the Apostle Paul calls the, "prince of the power of the air" who is Satan. This world is at enmity with God and therefore at enmity with those who follow Christ. This means, we rely on the power of the Holy Spirit working through us, knowing we will have trials. But God has promised, His grace, mercy and love because of our love for Jesus and faith in Him alone for salvation, will be sufficient for the work He as called us to do.
