DAILY DEVOTIONS: May 31 'Even in Mystery, Trust'

'Even in Mystery, Trust'
The Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.
- Luke 1:45
The promise made to Mary was full of mystery. She didn't understand exactly how this promise would be fulfilled or how it would affect her life. But that did not interfere with the swiftness of her response. She heard the promise and, with a trusting heart, said "yes." Can we learn something from this?

The Lord made promises to us too. He promised that he would always be with us. He promised that if we loved him, our lives would bear much fruit. He promised that our relationship with him would last forever. Death would simply be a passage to a new and transformed life that would never end.

These promises are full of mystery, and we don't exactly understand how they will be fulfilled. But like Mary, we can respond with a trusting heart and give to God our grateful "yes."
Lord, your promises reveal your great love for us. May I always be grateful for these gifts.
- Fr. Kenneth Grabner, C.S.C.
