DAILY DEVOTIONS: Jun 13 'What's Your Ministry?'

'What's Your Ministry?'
St. Anthony of Padua
Therefore, since we have this ministry through the mercy shown us, we are not discouraged.
- 2 Corinthians 4:1
When I was in the seminary, I heard much about ministry. I was to be a minister of the church, I was told. Ministry would define me. After ordination, I attended a diocesan meeting where a man was explaining the work done by people in education, finances, maintenance and other departments. He kept referring to these people as ministers. I said they should be called workers or employees. Visually incensed, he replied: "Just because you are a priest, don't think others can't also be ministers." He was correct. There are countless ministers on earth, seeking to make Christ present in some place or in their work. They provide service and make a better world. Ministers are in medicine, law, science and where those who pick up our trash on the curb--ministers of the environment. To all true ministers, much appreciation and many thanks to you.

Dear reader, what is your ministry?
- Fr. James McKarns
