DAILY DEVOTIONS:Jul 31 ''Kingdom Moments''

''Kingdom Moments''
St. Ignatius of Loyola
The Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
- Matthew 13:44
I was leaving a family get-together when my normally undemonstrative teenage granddaughter gave me a big hug and told me that she loved me. It made my day! Whether it was a spontaneous gesture of affection, a belly laugh, a great conversation or an opportunity to give someone what they need, so often the best moments in my life have been unexpected. I call them "kingdom moments" because they are the times when I most clearly recognize God's presence.

What ultimately brings me joy and what provides only passing gratification is not always easy to recognize. Spiritual leaders repeatedly tell us that the values of our culture like money and power don't bring lasting joy. We don't believe it, however, until we take the time to pay attention to what our experiences are teaching us.
