LET US PRAISE THE LORD
TEXT: PSALM 145:21
BIBLE TEXT:
“My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever an d ever” (Psalm 145:21).
What do you know about praising God? The quality of praise is not so much in its content as it is in its context. Most youths know the praise of a rejoicing heart but how many know the praise emanating from a crushed spirit? Praising God in joy, victory, success and happiness? Ah, that is easy. But, praising God when the storm refuses to go away? That is real praise! Healed and plucked from the jaws of death, King Hezekiah exclaimed, “The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day.” Compare that with Job’s submissive praise after his life’s greatest tragedy: “The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD”. The difference is clear. One of the best praise songs of the modern Christian era is ‘I Will Praise You in the Storm.’ It speaks of praise to God for who He is, not just for the things He has done. God is worthy of our praise always. Qualitative praise wells up from a pure heart, it is not governed by events around.

Challenge: Why, when and how do you praise God?
Prayer: Praise the Lord, bless His name, O my soul.
Quote: Qualitative praise wells up from a pure heart.
